Candle Safety:
Careful, responsible use of candles can prevent injury or property damage. Please keep in mind the following precautions when enjoying your Beeswax Candle Company candles and always follow directions in packaging.
- Always remove all packaging completely before burning candles.
- Always stay within view of a burning candle.
- Keep candles away from children and pets.
- Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings or other foreign matter that might present a fire hazard.
- Keep wicks trimmed to one-quarter inch.
If an off-center flame is causing the candle to burn unevenly, simply move the extinguished wick to the center with a metal spoon handle while the wax is still soft.
The wick is designed to produce a small black carbon cap at the top of the wick as it burns. This is normal as it helps radiate heat to the edge of the candle. You should not trim the wick nor touch it while it is cold.
To ensure you get the most enjoyment and burn time from your Beeswax Candle Company candles, we've listed a few tips:
Tip #1: Avoid the Draft
Place the candle in an area free from drafts. The first time you light the candle, allow it to burn until the liquid wax covers the entire top of the candle. This breaking in process insures that it will perform better and more evenly throughout its life.
For pillars, plan on burning 3-4 hours on the initial lighting. With subsequent use, the candle should remain lit for a minimum of 2 - 3 hours each time to insure a clean and efficient burning cycle for the life of the candle.
Tip #2: Dip the Wick
To extinguish a candle, gently dip the wick into the liquid wax, using a non-flammable instrument. This little known technique eliminates smoking.
Tip #3: Hands off the Cold Ones
The wick is designed to produce a small black carbon cap at the top as it burns. This is normal and helps radiate heat to the edge of the candle. You should not trim the wick or touch it while it is cold! After extinguishing the flame, it is best to remove carbon deposits or other foreign materials from the liquid wax when possible.
Tip #4: Candle, Heal Thyself
If your candle burns unevenly (due to a draft, for instance), carefully push the wick towards the higher side. If this causes dripping, extinguish the flame, let it cool for an hour, then relight the candle. Repeat this practice a few times and the candle will repair itself.
Tip #5: Get Buffed
To regain the color and luster of a non- textured candle, buff with a soft cotton cloth or an old nylon stocking to remove dust and small scratches. This technique restores the candle's sheen.
Tip #6: Plan to Clean
Votives are wonderful, however, the clean up of the dish is frustrating and time consuming. Eliminate this aggravation. Simply place four drops of tap water in the base of the votive dish prior to lighting. Once the votive candle is extinguished, allow the wax to solidify. Once solid, gently push on the wax and the contents should pop loose.
Tip #7: Basic Custom Fit
Many times the candle that is just perfect has a stem too large for the candleholder you choose. Set the stem of the candle in half an inch of hot tap water (this softens the wax on the outside of the candle). Push the candle into the holder gently. The candle base will custom fit to the candle holder. Repeat as necessary for a secure fit.
